The Widow’s Story
I worked with an elderly lady one time who was a “hoarder” as some would explain. Her husband passed away about years prior, and she had accumulated even more “stuff.” Her family was making her feel very insecure about the accumulation of “stuff” and was pushing her to simply throw it all away. Do not look through it, just throw it away! She called us for our dumpster service and for help to throw away the items she had already set aside to go. I had worked with her, she had confided in me on how everyone wanted her to get rid of everything and that it was hard for her to part with. We often spoke on the phone after hours, sharing words of encouragement. After filling a few dumpsters, she decided she was ready to take some more time and go through everything, as she had cleared a lot of space already. I shared that I was happy she was able to part with what she has and look forward to working with her more. When she sent her check for payment, it was about 3x what it should have been. She stated how I was such a blessing and had helped her so much through this process that she wanted to bless me. I cried; it was so touching. She ended up finding a stack of money and other valuable items as she took her time to go through everything. Her original gut feeling of not wanting to just throw everything away without going through it all paid off!
